Information for Coach Drivers
These directions are specifically for drivers of coaches arriving from London or Medway via the M2/A2 or from Thanet via the A256.
On several routes on this site drivers are instructed to turn right at the traffic lights at Crabble. This turning is too tight for coaches and the following directions should be followed instead:-
Continue through Crabble lights and down the hill. Continue straight ahead at the next set of lights at Buckland. You are now entering the one-way system.
As you approach the next set of lights you will need to turn right into Cherry Tree Avenue at these lights, and it may be worth straddling both lanes to negotiate the island.
Continue down Cherry Tree Avenue to the traffic lights and turn right. You now rejoin the one-way system. Immediately in front of you is another set of traffic lights where two lanes go straight ahead and the left-most lane is a filter lane for Coombe Valley Road. Keep to the centre lane (which becomes the left-hand lane after the lights. Continue on London Road to Buckland.
A major landmark can be found at Buckland Bridge where the road bears right then left with pedestrian crossings and the facade of the old Buckland Paper Mill in front of you and The Bull public house on your right. Keep to the left hand side of the road. You are now leaving the one-way system.
Proceed up the hill towards River. You will pass under a railway bridge with a set of traffic lights ahead of you. At the lights keep to the left and bear left.
Proceed down the hill, under the railway bridge. Take the 2nd turning on the right into Lower Road - there is a sign pointing to the Mill at this junction.
About 300 metres along this road you will find the Mill on the right where your passengers can alight.
Parking for coaches here is not advisable as the road is narrow and it is recommended to park on Lewisham Road - which is the road on the opposite side of River Recreation Ground.
Continue along Lower Road and bear left at the next junction. At the crossroads turn left onto Lewisham Road and continue on to the recreation ground (on your left). There is a local bus stop here too but there is usually adequate space before it for parking.
Passengers can board here, they should be able to see your coach from the Mill anyway, or you can continue around the block, taking the 2nd turning on your left back into Lower Road to allow them to board outside the Mill.
Coach drivers who are able to secure their vehicles may wish to come to the Mill where the staff will be pleased to provide them refreshments while they wait for their passengers.
By Road from Dover Town
Visitors should be aware that Dover has a one-way system which runs in a clockwise directions and encompasses much of the town with various roads that cross-link the circuit.
Follow signs for Crabble, River, Temple Ewell and Lydden. A major landmark can be found at Buckland Bridge where the road bears sharp right then left with pedestrian crossings and the facade of the old Buckland Paper Mill in front of you and The Bull public house on your right.
About 300 metres along this road you will find the Mill on the right.
Free parking is available in River Recreation Ground, which is on the left just before the Mill.
By Road from Thanet
From the Isle of Thanet approach Dover via Sandwich and the A256.
At the junction with the A2 follow the signs for Canterbury via the two roundabouts.
Approach the next roundabout in the left-hand lane. Take the 2nd exit signposted River, Temple and Dover (North) and proceed down Whitfield Hill. At the mini-roundabout at the bottom of the hill turn left towards Dover.
After about a mile there is a set of traffic lights. Turn right at these lights (signposted River and Crabble Athletic Ground). Coach drivers should refer to the "Directions for Coach Drivers" page at this point.

By Road from London and Medway Towns
When driving from London or the Medway area via the M2 exit the M2 at Junction 7 following signs for the A2, Canterbury and Dover.
Continue on the A2 past Canterbury. You will come across two sets of traffic lights and the dual carriageway will narrow to a single carriageway. After about 5 miles (8 Kilometres) you will arrive at Whitfield and a large roundabout.
Go around the roundabout and take the 4th exit signposted River, Temple Ewell and Dover North. This is Whitfield Hill and you should proceed to the bottom of the hill. At the mini-roundabout at the bottom of the hill turn left towards Dover.
After about a mile there is a set of traffic lights. Turn right at these lights (signposted River and Crabble Athletic Ground). Coach drivers should refer to the "Directions for Coach Drivers" page at this point.

By Road from London (via Ashford)
Follow the M20 via Ashford towards Folkestone and the Channel Tunnel. At Folkestone the M20 ends and becomes the A20.
Visitors arriving via the Channel Tunnel should follow the exit signs for Dover and Folkestone. At the traffic lights turn right (you cannot turn left anyway) and proceed to the roundabout, taking the third exit towards Folkestone. At the next roundabout take the first exit onto the M20.
The route is modified at times due to ongoing works at the tunnel site and may require that you exit onto the M20 towards London. This being the case then leave the M20 at junction 11 and use the roundabout to reverse your direction back onto the M20 and head towards Dover.
Follow signs for Dover and Eastern Docks and then refer to directions from the Eastern Docks.
